Description

The Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality, individualized academic instruction to students enrolled in JJD Learning Academy's educational programs. The teacher will provide instruction to students in kindergarten through 12th grade based on their grade level, academic abilities, educational goals, curriculum requirements, and individual learning needs.

The  Teacher is expected to create a structured, supportive, safe, and engaging educational environment that promotes academic achievement, independence, appropriate classroom behavior, social development, and student confidence.

JJD Learning Academy serves students with a variety of academic, developmental, communication, behavioral, and learning needs. Teachers must be prepared to differentiate instruction and collaborate professionally with parents/caregivers, administrative staff, other teachers, behavior-analytic professionals, therapists, and other members of a student's support team when appropriate.

Requirements

A four-year bachelor's degree is required for this position.

Applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Education or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are preferred but are not required unless otherwise specified for a particular program:
  • Current or previous North Carolina teaching license.
  • Previous K–12 classroom teaching experience.
  • Experience in private school, homeschool, micro-school, tutoring, or alternative educational settings.
  • Experience working with students with exceptional needs.
  • Experience working with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder or developmental disabilities.
  • Experience with individualized instruction and academic intervention.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Knowledge of positive behavioral supports and classroom-management practices.

Physical and Environmental Requirements
The position may require prolonged periods of standing or sitting, walking throughout the facility, bending, reaching, transitioning between instructional areas, and moving educational materials.

Teachers must be capable of actively supervising students and responding promptly to situations involving student safety.

Responsibilities

The teacher will:
  • Provide direct academic instruction to students in grades K–12.
  • Develop and implement daily and weekly lesson plans.
  • Provide instruction in core academic subjects, including reading, English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
  • Adapt instruction based on each student's grade level, academic performance, learning style, and identified educational needs.
  • Provide individualized and small-group instruction when appropriate.
  • Establish measurable academic goals for students and monitor progress toward those goals.
  • Conduct academic assessments and ongoing progress monitoring to identify student strengths and areas requiring additional support.
  • Develop instructional activities, assignments, projects, assessments, and educational materials.
  • Provide academic interventions for students performing below expected grade-level standards.
  • Provide enrichment opportunities for students who demonstrate mastery of current academic material.
  • Incorporate appropriate technology and educational resources into classroom instruction.
  • Assist students with developing organization, communication, problem-solving, study, time-management, and independent-learning skills.
  • Review student work and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate grades, progress reports, and other required academic documentation.
  • Participate in educational planning and student progress meetings as assigned.
Lesson Planning and Curriculum Responsibilities
Teachers are responsible for preparing instruction before scheduled teaching periods. Lesson plans should clearly identify instructional objectives, activities, materials, methods of instruction, and methods for evaluating student understanding.

Teachers are expected to:
  • Follow the curriculum and academic requirements established for the educational program.
  • Ensure instructional materials are appropriate for the student's age, grade, and academic ability.
  • Differentiate assignments and instructional methods when students require additional support.
  • Maintain organized lesson plans and instructional materials.
  • Prepare classroom materials before instruction begins.
  • Monitor curriculum completion and student academic progress.
  • Notify administration when a student demonstrates significant academic concerns or requires additional educational support.
